Presenting your life in the best light possible when you create your online dating profile is a perfectly normal and beneficial thing to do. Similarly to when you post pictures of yourself on your social media account, you probably post the very best image of yourself and crop out the parts of the picture that may not be aesthetically pleasing. Be sure to check out Part One of this series to learn about a very important issue that you should never lie about on your dating profile if you have not done so already. In this section, we will be exploring how you are what you eat, and how you will be at a disadvantage if you do not tell the truth about your dietary habits.
Have you ever wondered if you really are what you eat? The truth is that what we eat affects everything that we do. Some people feel that it is no big deal to eat whatever they please. Other people feel that food is such an important part of their lives that they want to associate only with people who approach food the same way that they do. How do you feel about food? Do you have an accepting attitude towards ALL types of food? Or, do you wrinkle your nose in disgust at the thought of having certain types of food in your home? Perhaps you have allergies to specific foods and cannot risk exposing yourself to meals that contain ingredients that you are allergic to. Believe it or not, your dietary habits should have an impact on the relationship choices that you make. Lying about your dietary preferences on your dating profile will result in you not finding what you are looking for.
There was an episode of Divorce Court on TV years ago in which the wife who was a vegetarian was divorcing her meat-eater husband. Food preference was not the only reason why those two divorced, but the wife had a difficult time accepting that her husband was a meat eater and would frequently store meat in their refrigerator. What kind of relationship can anyone expect to have when they cannot even eat with their significant other? A lot of relationship bonding takes place during meals and celebrations. We all need to eat and drink each day in order to thrive. You can try to avoid having meals with someone whose dietary habits you do not like, but if you do so, you will be missing out on important opportunities to connect with each other.
Let’s take a look at vegetarianism for example. The vegetarian lifestyle is not a one size fits all type of life because there are different types of vegetarianism. Lacto-ovo vegetarians eat food that contains dairy and eggs, but they do not tend to consume other animal products. Ovo-vegetarians allow eggs in their diet. Lacto-vegetarians allow milk in their diet. Pescatarians allow fish in their diet but exclude other animal products. Vegans do not allow any animal products in their diet. I have grown up eating food from all food groups, but my parents practiced vegetarianism for themselves with one of my parents being a strict pescatarian, and the other parent being a lacto-ovo pescatarian. I would feel completely comfortable with dating a vegetarian who incorporated fish, dairy, and eggs in their diet, but I would have a challenging time dating a vegan. Grains, fruits, and vegetables taste wonderful and are enjoyable to eat, but I cannot imagine never eating a piece of meat. I certainly would not want to be criticized for eating what I choose to eat either. Many vegetarians probably feel the same way about their dietary preferences; they do not want to be criticized for enjoying what they eat.
What does your ideal meal date look like for you? Is it a dream of yours to cook with your partner? If you are a person who enjoys eating steaks, grilled anything, and juicy vegetables on your burger, then dating a vegetarian might not be as much fun for you as dating another meat eater who enjoys meat as much as you do. If you are fine with your date eating a veggie burger while you eat a meat burger, then dating a vegetarian might be a positive experience for you. Being truthful about your dietary preferences on your profile will open the doors to you meeting someone who is in synch with the way that you want to live your life.
Alcohol consumption is something else that you need to be truthful about on your dating profile. Some singles who have been negatively affected by alcoholism and drunk driving prefer dating other singles who refrain from alcohol completely. Other singles are enthusiasts of wines and spirits, and they want to connect with people who they can share their favourite alcoholic beverages with. Dating is more fun and rewarding when you are with someone who understands who you are and who wants to join you in living life the way that you want to live it. People really have broken up over food choices, and if you want to prevent that possibility, then you need to spill the tea about what you like and what you cannot stomach with regards to food and beverages. Telling the truth about your dietary habits and preferences will help you to find a more compatible mate to build your life with.
